Averett Takes Game One Over Pacers, Game Two Postponed to Saturday

The Basics:

How it Happened:

GAME ONE
  • The Cougars had a strong open in the top of the first inning as lead-off, Kaitlyn Aherron hit a double to left field. Hannah Thompson hit a single to right field, scoring Aherron. The Cougars would score an unearned run later in the inning off a single to right field.
  • With a 2-0 lead, the Cougars continued their offensive threat in the top of the second inning scoring two more runs (4-0).
  • With bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning, Emily Puckett reached on a fielder's choice and scored one to put the Pacers on the board (4-1).
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Candice Smith doubled to left center to score Pittman who'd singled and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Kelsey Durham. The Pacers would head into the top of the sixth inning, trailing 4-2.
  • The Cougars would win the first game, 4-2.

  • Kaitlyn Aherron tallied one double.
  • Hannah Thompson and Nicole Cauthen both finished with one RBI and one hit each.
  • Hannah Thompson got the win on the mound, only allowing three hits with four strikeouts.

GAME 2
  • In the top of the first inning, Olivia Oates got the Pacers on the board with a grand slam.  The Pacers lead heading into the bottom of the first, 4-0.
  • The Cougars scored in the third inning off an error in the field in an attempt to pick-off a steal.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cougars cut the Pacers' lead to two, scoring on another Pacer fielding error (4-2).
  • The Cougars tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning after errors loaded the bases and runs would score off of a walk and an error.
  • The Pacers took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning after loading the bases and Kristen Bailly worked a count to walk in the lead runner.
  • The Cougars would tie the game on a walk as well and the Pacers would head into extra innings.
  • The game would be suspended with the score at 5-5 after nine innings due to lack of sufficient light on the field. The game will be continued on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. Should the Pacers win game two, there will be a third game as a tiebreaker to determine which team will advance in the tournament.
