Baseball Falls to Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: William Peace 5 Randolph-Macon 16
  • Records: William Peace 9-21 Randolph-Macon 15-6-1
  • Location - Ashland, VA

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Yellow Jackets opened the game with 7-0 advantage through the first three innings.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Tyler Tilson worked the count for a walk. Alec Seaton singled through the left side, advancing Tilson to second. A walk from Parker Fernstrum would load the bases as Hunter Burwell stepped to the plate. Burwell would hit a two RBI double down the left field line. Jake Norris would follow with a single to the pitcher, scoring Fernstrum. The Pacers would trail, 7-3.
  • The Pacers would score again off of an error in the top of the fifth inning.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Yellow Jacket bats came alive with several big hits to bring in two runs. The Pacers would trail, 9-4.
  • The Pacers scored again in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Randolph-Macon lead to 4 but the Yellow Jackets pushed onward in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two.
  • The Yellow Jackets would seal the victory in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring five runs off of consecutive Pacer errors. Randolph-Macon would win, 16-5.

FOR THE FOES
  • Ryan Duphorn lead the Yellow Jackets with three hits with one double, and one RBI.
  • Zach Evans tallied two doubles and three RBI's.
  • Jeff Butler finished with two hits, one RBI, and scored three runs.

The William Peace University baseball team will return to action on Friday, April 12 against Methodist University. The Pacers will take on the Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
