Pacers Split Softball Double-Header with Pride

The Basics:

  • Game 1: William Peace 8  Greensboro 9

  • Game 2: William Peace 6  Greensboro 5

  • Records: William Peace 8-12  Greensboro 16-10

  • Location: Greensboro, NC | Latham Park

 

Game 1:

  • Candice Smith led off with a double to left field to get the Pacer bats going early in the top half of the inning. Smith would advance to third on a passed ball as Kristen Baily drew a walk to put runners on first and third for Lauren Conway. Conway would then deliver with an RBI double to give the Pacers an early 1-0 lead.

  • Kristina Mojica would follow with an RBI single up the middle to double the Pacers' lead.

  • A Kelsey Durham groundout to second was enough to score Conway from third. Emily Puckett would cap off the four run inning for the Pacers with an RBI single to right field to give WPU the 4-0 lead.

  • Greensboro answered with nine runs combined in the next two innings, four of which came off a grand slam from Jordan Denton to give the Pride a 9-4 lead.

  • The Pacers would cut the Pride's lead to 3 in the top of the sixth as Candice Smith hit a two run homerun to center field.

  • In the bottom of the seventh the Pacers would come within one after Olivia Oates hit a 2 RBI home run

  • The Pacers put two runners in scoring position however their comeback fell short as the Pride hung on for a 9-8 win.

 

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:

For the Foes for Game 1:

  • Cassie Collins went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI

  • Allyson Loy finished 3 for 4 at the plate

  • Jordan Denton finished with 5 RBIs

 

Game 2:

  • Greensboro would get the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth inning when D. Martin would hit a double to bring A Loy in and to put the Pride up 1-0.

  • Emily Puckett answered back for the Pacers in the top of the fifth inning singling to right field and then advancing to third off an error. Candice Smith would then fly out to center field and RBI bringing Puckett in and tie up the game 1-1.

  • Errors from the Pacers in the bottom of the fifth would lead to the Pride to score three more runs putting them up 4-1 going into the sixth inning.

  • Lauren Conway tripled to start of the top of the sixth and Kristina Mojica followed up with a single to left field and RBI.

  • The Pacers loaded the bases to start the seventh after three batters were walked with only one out. Lauren Conway singled to center and brought in two runs and tied the game up 4-4.

  • Kristina Mojica doubled down the left field line and brought in Kristin Baily. Lauren Conway then scored on a pass ball and gave the Pacers the 6-4 lead.

  • Greensboro scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh but the Pacer defense held them and insured a Pacer victory.

  • Caroline Stanley went 2 for 3 in game two

  • Daisy Martin would also finish  2 for 3 at the plate

The Pacers return to the field on Saturday, March 30 against Salem College. WPU will take on the Spirits at 1:00 p.m. at the WPU Softball Complex.
