Pacers Split Series With Spirits

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace 2  Salem 10
  • Game 2: William Peace 6 Salem 5
  • Records: William Peace 9-13  Salem 12-9
  • Location: Raleigh, NC | WPU Softball Complex

Game 1:
  • The Spirits came out firing in the opening two innings, scoring eight runs off of eight hits. In the first inning alone, Salem College had three back-to-back doubles.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, with one on, Kristen Bailly knocked a homerun over left field to put two runs on the board for the Pacers.
  • The Pacers' bats would remain quiet throughout the remainder of the game as they would not connect on another hit.
  • The Spirits got their offense going again in the top of the seventh inning as they'd bring in two final runs off of four hits.
  • Salem would win the first half of the doubleheader, 10-2.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Miranda Barker finished with three hits, five RBI's, and one double.
  • Brittany Morton finished with two hits and three runs.
  • Breanna Herman had two hits and three RBI's.

Game 2:
  • The Pacers would get things going in game two as Candice Smith reached on an error and advanced to second. Smith would advance to third on a passed ball before Lauren Conway would step up to hit a single up the middle, scoring Smith.
  • The Spirits would even the score in the top of the second inning thanks to a sac fly by Breanna Herman, scoring one.
  • The Pacers would continue their bats in the bottom of the second inning as Candace Smith doubled to right center scoring Kelsey Durham and Kaylea Eubanks.
  • The Spirits would take a 5-3 advantage in the top of the third inning off of four hits.
  • A late push in the bottom of the seventh inning would win the game for the Pacers, starting with a single from Emily Puckett. Candace Smith singled to right field and advanced to second on the throw, pushing Puckett to third. With runners in scoring position, Kristen Bailly doubled to right field, scoring both Puckett and Smith. With two outs and a tie game, Kristina Mojica doubled to left center, scoring Bailly for the win, 6-5.

  • McDonough finished with one hit.
  • Breanna Herman finished with one hit and two RBIs.
  • Breanne Coleman finished with one hit and one RBI.

What's Next?
The WPU softball team returns to their home field on Sunday, March 31 against Mary Baldwin University. The Pacers play theFighting Squirrels in a double header beginning at 12:00 p.m.
