Softball Falls to Hornets of Lynchburg

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace 1  Lynchburg 2

Game 1:
  • The first game of the afternoon between the Hornets and the Pacers would flow quickly through the first three innings as the Pacers were stuck at a 0-0 draw with Lynchburg after leaving four Pacers stranded on base.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, the Hornets scored off a triple hit by Kortney Leazer.
  • The Pacers responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as Olivia Oates scored on an error by the Lynchburg third baseman (1-1).
  • In the top of the seventh inning, the Hornets scored their winning run as Taylor Mabry hit a single to center field with a runner in scoring position.
  • The Pacers' effort would fall short in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Hornets defense would close the game with a 2-1 win.
  • The Pacers would finish with seven hits to the Hornets four, and leave nine runners left on base in game one.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Kayla Hugate tallied one hit and one stolen base.
  • Taylor Mabry finished with one hit and one RBI.
  • Kortney Leazer tallied one hit and one RBI.

Game 2:
  • The Hornets would open the top of the second inning with offensive success as Brittany Coffey hit a two RBI homerun over left field. With two on, and one out, Kayla Hugate hit a sac fly to score one.
  • The Pacers wrapped up the second inning with a run off of an error from the Lynchburg pitcher. Lynchburg would lead, 3-1.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Kristen Bailly hit a deep homerun over the center field fence to cut the Pacer deficit to one. Olivia Oates hit an RBI double to right center to tie the game up 3-3 heading into the fourth inning.
  • In the top of the fourth inning with two runners on, Mackenzie Chitwood hit a three RBI homerun to centerfield, giving the Hornets a 6-3 lead.
  • The Hornets would score their seventh run of the game off an error but the Pacers responded in the bottom of the fifth. Back-to-back base hits from Kristina Mojica and Emily Puckett, put runners in scoring position for the Pacers. Bailey Ellison would steal home on a throw down to second by the Hornets, the Pacers would trail, 7-4.
  • In the top of the seventh inning, a sac fly would send in the eighth run of the game for the Hornets. The Pacers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and would score one before their rally was put to rest with a final score of 8-5 in favor of the Hornets.

For the Foes for Game 2:
  • Mackenzie Chitwood finished with two hits, three RBI's and one homerun.
  • Brittany Coffey finished with two hits, two RBI's, and one homerun.
  • Kortney Leazer finished with two hits and two stolen bases.
  • Kayley Cox came in for the save in the bottom of the seventh inning, throwing two strikeouts in five batters faced.
