Bishops Push Past Pacers in Close Finish

The Basics:
  • Final Score: William Peace 4  N.C. Wesleyan 5

  • Location: USA Baseball NTC | Cary, NC

How It Happened:
  • The Battling Bishops opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning off of two Pacer errors.
  • In the top of the second with one on, the Bishops' Alec Titmus would single up the middle, advancing Logan Andrews to third. Titmus would advance to second on the throw. Cedrick Kornegay hit a single to right field, scoring Andrews. The Pacers would trail, 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Nick Montrose would hit an infield single to third and beat out the throw, but would be left stranded as the inning would end in the next at-bat.
  • The Bishops got their bats going in the top of the as they'd score their third run of the game with three hits.
  • The Pacers came up big in the bottom of the fifth inning as Gavin Wheeler opened the inning with a double down the left field line. Easton Payton would reach on error on the pitcher off a well-placed bunt, advancing Wheeler to third. Payton would steal second, as Kyle Lowke stepped up to bat. With runners in scoring position and zero outs, Lowke hit a two RBI single to center field. The Pacers would trail, 3-2 heading into the top of the sixth.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Nathan Holt singled to second base. Ty Galloway followed with a sac bunt, advancing Holt to third. Michael Sterne came in to pinch hit and would drill one deep to the left corner, for an RBI double, tying the game at 3-3.
  • In the top of the 8th inning, with two on, Cedrick Cornegay tripled to right center scoring two, to give the Bishops a 5-3 edge.
  • In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Pacers would answer as Nathan Holt got the bats started with a single to left field.Mikey Anerton would single to left field as well, scoring Holt. The Pacers would then keep the Bishops from making their way around the bases, sending the Pacers into the bottom of the 9th inning, down 5-4.
  • Noah Shrock closed out the inning for the Bishops on the mound, to keep the Pacers off the board, sealing the win, 5-4.

  • Cedrick Cornegay tallied two hits with two RBI's and one triple.
  • Trey Croom finished with two hits and one RBI.
  • Nate Gardener and Andrew Nichols finished with two hits a piece.
