Pacers Fall to Pride in Conference Opener

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace 2 Greensboro 15
  • Game 2: William Peace 4  Greensboro 11
  • Records: William Peace 3-6 Greensboro 2-3
  • Location: USA Baseball NTC | Cary, NC

Game 1:
  • Nathan Holt lead off the bottom of the first inning with a triple to get the bats going. Ty Galloway would go opposite field to send one down the right side of the field, scoring Holt. The Pacers would finish the first inning up, 1-0
  • Lincoln Hewett would get the bats going to begin the top of the 2nd inning with a double to center field. Ryan Campbell would single up the middle, scoring Hewett to even the score at 1-1. Jacob Rodriguez would follow with a single up the middle of his own and would advance to second on the throw, moving Campbell to third. The Pacers would fend off the Pride, leaving three on to end the inning, 1-1.
  • In the top of the 4th inning, Ryan Campbell would reach on an error. Campbell would advance to second on a failed pick-off attempt. Jacob Rodriuez would beat out a throw to first for a single, moving Campbell to third. Rodriguez would steal second and Brayden King would be hit by a pitch to load the bases. Blake Carroll would also be hit by a pitch scoring Campbell. Hunter Curtis would step up to the plate for a 2RBI single up the middle. The Pacers would only have  one out in the inning at this point.
  • With just 1 out and two on, Cam Peters would reach on an error as Carroll wouid score for the Pride.  Tyler Price would walk, loading the bases once again for Greensboro. The Pacers would follow with a pitching change, calling Brendan Shea to take the mound with one out. A passed ball would score Curtis on third, followed by a 2RBI double from Hewett. A walk and a single to load the bases once more, would strike up another pitching change for the Pacers. Isaiah Ortega would take the mound with one out and the score at 8-1.
  • Jacob Rodriguez would continue the bats for the Pride with a base hit through the left side but heads up plays from the Pacers defense would get them out of the inning with a double play as Mikey Anerton would pick off Campbell rounding second base on the hit, and Parker Fernstrum would pick off Rodriguez rounding first. Two Pride athletes would score prior to the double play and the Pacers would head into the bottom of the fourth trailing, 10-1.
  • The Pacers would have a scoreless fourth inning and the Pride would step up in the top of the fifth inning with a homerun from Blake Carroll (11-1).
  • Rodriguez would begin the top of the seventh inning with a single to left field for the Pride. Rodriguez would advance to second on a wild pitch. Hunter Curtis would hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Rodriguez and advancing to second on the throw. Cam Peters would follow with an RBI single to center field. The Pacers would head into the bottom of the seventh trailing, 13-1.
  • Wyatt McInnis would step up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, hitting a single up the middle. Nathan Holt would drill one to the left side of the field, advancing McInnis to second. Easton Payton would single up the middle, moving Holt to second and scoring McInnis. The Pacers would close the bottom of the seventh, 13-2.
  • The Pride would begin the top of the eighth with back-to-back walks, followed by a hit by pitch to load the bases. Rodriguez would reach on a Pacer error, Campbell would be out at second base, while GC would score two.
  • The game would conclude, 15-2 at the end of eight innings.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
  • Nathan Holt would go 2-2 at the plate with one triple and four putouts in the field.
  • Ty Galloway finished with two hits and one RBI.

For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Jacob Rodriguez went 4-5 at the plate.
  • Hunter Curtis finished with three hits and three RBI's.
  • Lincoln Hewett finished with two doubles and two RBI's.
  • Blake Carroll finished with one homerun and two RBI's.

Game 2:
  • The Pacers jumped on the bats early in the bottom of the first inning as Easton Payton kicked off the inning with a double to left field. Alec Seaton would reach on a fielders choice as Payton would be run down at second base in a pickle situation. Seaton would advance to second during the play. Ty Galloway would double to left field, scoring Seaton. Michael Sterne would hit a base hit through the left side, sending Galloway to third. With two outs, Sterne would be caught stealing. The Pacers would head into to the top of the second, up 1-0.
  • In the top of the third inning with bases loaded, Scotty McGuire would send one deep to left field. Easton Payton would make the catch but Hunter Curtis would tag up at third base to bring in the first run for the Pride. The score would be tied 1-1 with two outs. With two on, Derek Jackson would strikeout the third out to end the inning.
  • Nate Holt would get things going in the bottom of the third inning with a single to left field. Alec Seaton would move Holt with a base hit. With two on and two outs, Michael Sterne would step up to the plate for a big hit to center field, scoring Holt and advancing Seaton. Sterne would make a play for second base on the throw and would be safe on the dive into second. Mikey Anerton would beat out a throw to first off an infield hit, scoring Seaton. The Pacers headed into the top of the fourth up, 3-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, Alec Seaton would hit a double to right field. Nathan Holt would step up to the plate sending one down the third base line for a stand-up double. Seaton would bring in the fourth run of the game.
  • The Pacers would make a pitching change in the top of the sixth inning. The Pride would find their rhythm and come up with a big inning with three big hits to score four runs.
  • In the top of the eighth, the Pride bats would come alive as they finished the inning with 6 hits and  6 runs, bringing the score to 11-4 in their favor.
  • The Pride would finish out the game with the victory, 11-4.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 2:

For the Foes for Game 2:
  • Hunter Curtis went 2-4 with 1 RBI.
  • Lincoln Hewett went 2-3 with 2 RBI's.
  • Ryan Campbell finished with two hits and one double.


What's Next?

The Pacers are back in action on Tuesday, March 5 with a single game against the University of Lynchburg. The Pacers first pitch will take place at 3:00 p.m. at USA Baseball NTC.
