Piedmont Takes Sweep Over Pacer Softball

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace 2  Piedmont 12
  • Game 2: William Peace 3 Piedmont 6

Game 1:
  • The Pacers would tie the game up, 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning off of a double to left center by Kristen Bailly, scoring Candice Smith. The Lions answered in the top of the second inning with a homerun hit over center field by Madison Garrett. Errors would plague the Pacers in the second inning, as the Pacers would give up two runs following the homerun.
  • The Pacers trailed, 4-1 after two innings.
  • In the top of the third inning, with two on, the Lions continued to rock the bats with a sac fly to centerfield scoring one, and a grounder up the middle to score the second.
  • Trailing, 6-1 in the bottom of the third, Kristen Bailly would lead off with a homerun to left field to cut the lead to 6-2.
  • A six-run inning for the Lions would follow in the top of the fourth as Piedmont slammed five hits into play.
  • The Pacers were not able to recover in the remaining innings, and would fall to the Lions in six innings, 12-2.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Hannah Hoban went 2-3 at the plate with one RBI.
  • TK Sauls finished with two hits, five RBI's and one double.
  • Madison Garrett finished with one homerun.
  • Melissa Eckman earned the win on the mound and threw seven strikeouts with just one earned run.

Game 2:
  • The second game of the day proved to be a stalemate through the first three innings as both teams defenses kept the score at 0-0.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Hannah Hoban got the bats rolling with a double to left field.
  • Madison Garrett stepped up to hit a single to center field, scoring Linsay Link who pinch ran for Hoban.
  • Up 1-0, in the top of the sixth, the Lions would go on a run. Mariann Kennison lead off with a double to left field. Hannah Hoban would reach on error and Tori Roper would advance to third, pinch running for Kennison. Taylor Brown would lay down a bunt, reaching on a fielder's choice, as Roper would score on the play, beating out the throw home. With bases loaded, Taylor Warren doubled to left center, scoring two more. Katlyn Andrin would keep the bats rocking with a 2RBI single up the middle. The Pacers would end the inning down, 6-0.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Kristen Bailly hit a double to right center. Bailey Lambertson grounded out to second, Bailly advanced to third on a throwing error by the first baseman. Sara Siwinski stepped up and was hit by a pitch. With runners on the corners, and two outs, Lauren Conway stepped up to pinch hit and hit a double to left field, scoring both Bailly and Siwinski. The Pacer rally would end there, as Piedmont would take the victory, 6-3.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 2:
  • Kristen Bailly lead the Pacers with two hits and one RBI and one double.
  • Sarah Conklin finished with two hits.
  • Kristina Mojica tallied seven put outs behind the plate.
  • Danielle Hunt finished with seven strikeouts.

For the Foes for Game 2:
  • Madison Garrett lead the Lions with two hits and one RBI.
  • Mariann Kennison and Hannah Hoban each hit doubles.
  • Taylor Warren hit a two RBI double.

What's Next?
The Pacers have one game remaining before they enter conference play. WPU will take on Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, March 20. The Pacers will play the Captains in Newport News, VA at 3:30 p.m.
