Softball Splits with Wolves

The Basics:
  • Game 1: William Peace 5  Wesleyan 4
  • Game 2: William Peace 2 Wesleyan 3
  • Records: William Peace 5-7 Wesleyan 6-4

Game 1:
  • The Pacers jumped on the board early as Candice Smith would single up the middle and advance to second on a passed ball. Kristen Bailly would fire another up the middle, scoring Smith. The Pacers would take a 1-0 lead.
  • Yasnei Llavore would hit one deep over the left field wall for a WC homerun, tying the game at 1-1.
  • The Wolves would take their first lead of the game in the top of the fifth inning. With bases loaded, Brianna Collender would hit one in the gap of left field, scoring one.
  • With two on in the top of the sixth inning, the Wolves continued to rally as Alicia Ramirez would single through the left side scoring two.
  • Down 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Pacers would begin their fight. Summer Jacobs and Lauren Conway would walk, and Candice Smith would single through the left side, scoring Jacobs. Smith and Conway would advance on a wildpitch putting them in scoring position as Kaylea Eubanks would step up to the plate with two outs. Eubanks would walk, loading the bases. Kristen Bailly stepped up to the plate and would double to centerfield for a 3RBI walk-off. The Pacers would edge out the Wolves 5-4.

Pacer Top Performers for Game 1:
  • Candice Smith went an impressive 4-4 at the plate with one RBI.
  • Kristen Bailly went 2-4 at the plate with 4 RBI's and one double.
  • Olivia Oates went 2-3 at the plate.
  • Kelsey Durham earned the win on the mound, throwing three strikeouts and allowing only three runs and six hits.

For the Foes for Game 1:
  • Alicia Ramirez would go 2-4 for the Wolves with two RBI's.
  • Brienna Collender went 2-3 with 1 RBI.
  • Yasnei Llavore finished with two hits and one homerun.

Game 2:
  • Candice Smith opened the bottom of the first inning with a double to center field. Kristen Bailly singled through the left side scoring Smith. The Pacers would lead 1-0 heading into the top of the second.
  • The Wolves would tie it up in the second inning but the score would remain tied up until the sixth. With two on, in the bottom of the sixth, Candice Smith would be intentionally walked. With bases loaded, Kristen Bailly would single through the left side scoring one.
  • The Wolves would score two in the top of the seventh and leave the game in the hands of the Pacers, 3-2 heading into the final inning.
  • The Pacers would put two on but would leave them stranded in their efforts to win once more in the final inning of action (3-2).

  • Savannah Boyette finished with one double and one RBI.
  • Valerie Ellis finished with one hit and one RBI.

What's Next?
The Pacers face a quick turnaround as they take on the Lions of Piedmont College on Sunday, March 17. The Pacers will be hosting their Pink Game as they raise awareness for breast cancer. The Pink Ribbon Riders will take the field at 11:45 a.m., and the first pitch will follow at 12:00 p.m.
