Pacers Fall in Opening Game of Series Against Tornadoes

THE BASICS:
  • Score:William Peace 5 - Brevard 12
  • Records:William Peace 0-1; Brevard 1-0
  • Location - Cary, NC | USA Baseball National Training Complex

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the top of the first, the Tornados would jump on the scoreboard first as Jonte Wilkes would be hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • The Pacers would answer back in the bottom of the first as Easton Payton would get the bats going with a double to right field. Alec Seaton would send Payton home with a single to short to tie the score at 1-1.
  • The Tornadoes would have a big inning in the top of the second as Jason Jucker would his a rope to left field with the bases loaded, for an RBI single. Following Jucker, Ryan Roon would reach on a WPU error, scoring one. Holden Lanier would continue the offensive run with a 2RBI double up the middle. The second inning would end, 5-1 in favor of the Tornadoes.
  • The Pacers would make a pitching change in the top of the third as Isaiah Ortega would take the mound for Derek Jackson.
  • The Tornadoes finished with another big inning in the third, ending with four runs and two hits.
  • The Pacers would trail 9-1 heading into the fourth.
  • Alec Seaton would lead off the Pacers in the bottom of the fifth with a walk. Tyler Tilson would be hit by a pitch, advancing Seaton to second. With two on, Michael Sterne hit into a fielder's choice, advancing Tilson and Seaton. Mikey Anerton would walk next to load the bases. Seaton would score on a passed ball before the inning would come to a close, 9-2.
  • The Tornadoes would score one in the top of the fifth as their bats came alive, finishing the inning with three hits.
  • The Tornadoes would extend their lead to 12-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth. The Pacers made a brief rally in their final at-bat beginning with a double from Nate Holt. Easton Payton would walk and Kyle Lowke would single to left field scoring Holt and advancing Payton. Alec Seaton would walk, moving Lowke and Payton to scoring position. Will Dalton would single to score Payton and Ty Galloway would follow Dalton with a walk, scoring Lowke. The Pacers would end the rally with three runs scored off of three hits. The Pacers closing the game, 12-5 in favor of the Tornadoes.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Donny Carsillo went 2-4 at the plate, with three runs scored and three RBI's.
  • Ryan Roon went 3-6 at the plate with three RBI's.
  • Bryce Foster got the start for the Tornadoes and pitched five innings, allowing just two runs and four hits.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • Pacers struggled in the field, finishing with 4 errors.
  • The Tornadoes finished with 16 hits to the Pacers 12.


NEXT GAME
The Pacers are back in action for the second game of the series on Saturday, February 9 at 12:00 p.m. The game will be played on the main field of the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
