Raleigh,NC -- The William Peace University women's volleyball team went 1-1 on the day in the first round of the USA South Tournament hosted by Meredith College on Tuesday afternoon. The Pacers bested Methodist University 3 sets to 1 before falling to Meredith College 3 sets to 1 in the second game. This concludes the season for the Pacers, who finish 24-8 overall.
GAME ONE:
Set number one would see the Pacers get off to a strong start as they took an early 10-5 lead after a kill from
Mya Parks. Methodist would soon go on a five point run to tie the score at 11-11. The two teams would go back and forth for a while before the Pacers extended a lead on a seven point run making the score 22-14. Methodist did not see the lead, let alone a tie score, before the end of the set as
Mya Parks would score the final point for the Pacers with a service ace to end the set with a score of 25-18.
The Pacers began the strong to pull away from Methodist quickly with a score of 5-2. Methodist dug into their bag of tricks and soon after, tied the game 6-6 with a service ace from Megan Andrews. The Pacers immediately went on the score seven more points only allowing Methodist to score one point in between making the score 13-7. The Pacers held the lead for the remainder of the game as both teams went on multiple scoring runs before
Emerson Scollo would score the winning point with a kill making the final score of the set 25-16.
The Pacers did lose the third set to an avenging Methodist lineup 25-20, however both teams came out strong in the fourth set as Methodist did not want to lose and the Pacers wanted to end this matchup. The Pacers were down 13-10 in the middle of the fourth set before they got a hot hand and went on to score five consecutive points to give the Pacers a two point lead. The Pacers found themselves down again 17-16 soon after before the Pacers went on to score nine consecutive points, with the last three all being kills from
Brianna Davis to win the game for the Pacers with a final score of 25-17.
GAME TWO:
Set one would see both teams come out very strong out of the gate. There would be no major score difference until the score was tied at 8-8. The Pacers would then see themselves ahead of Meredith by a maximum of five points before a kill by Hailey Long would begin a comeback for meredith. However, Meredith would fall short of tying the game before
Abby Benton would finish the set with a kill for the Pacers and make the score 25-21.
The second set would start with an offensive push from Meredith putting them up 5-1. The Pacers would come back to tie the game at 8-8 with an attack error from Hailey Long. The score would be evenly matched between both team for the majority of the match. Meredith would eventually win the set with a couple extra services in the set. The score would end up being 29-27 with the Pacers still fighting hard until the end.
The Pacers would end up losing set three 25-21 with the majority of the set being close in score. Set four would start off with Meredith dominated the score 13-7. The Pacers would fight hard to try and secure a lead or even a tie but their efforts would fall short as Meredith would go on a five point run before delivering the final blow making the final score of the set 25-14 and the final score of the matchup 3-1. This would be the end of a hard fought season for the Pacers as they made a great run.

THE FOES GAME 1:
- Jamie Jones finished with 8 kills for Methodist.
- Savanna Mullis finished with 18 assists.
THE FOES GAME 2:
- Hailey Long finished with 17 kills for Meredith .
- Bailey Lucas finished with 28 assists.
