Cary,NC-- The Pacers defeated NC Wesleyan on October 5th, 2019 by a score of 2-0. The Pacers now rise to a record of 6-6-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. This marks the first time in program history that the Pacers have defeated the Bishops.
The game started out evenly matched between NC Wesleyan and the Pacers. Keeper
Kasey Wilkins would make an early save at 8:21 to keep the score 0-0. As time went on, the Pacers would gradually take over possession as they began to connect passes between the midfield and the forwards.
Haley Hinton would get the first opportunity of the game for WPU at 17:35 but Alicia Jacobs would stand tall in net for NC Wesleyan. The Bishops would end up finding more chances than the Pacers as they outshot the Pacers 8-2. The first half would conclude with a tied score of 0-0
The second half would continue to see the Pacers connecting passes all throughout the field. These passes would eventually lead to a rocket of a goal scored by
Raine Greene from outside the box at 51:29. With this goal,
Raine Greene would become the single season goal scoring record holder with 11 goals for WPU women's soccer. Soon after,
Kyra Delaney would score her first goal of the season with after a long ball over the top from
Abigail Mosteller. Delaney would be in on goal 1v1 and tuck it away into the bottom right corner at 76:32, making the score 2-0. The game would conclude with a Pacer victory over NC Wesleyan with a score of 2-0
THE BREAKDOWN:
- Raine Greene scored her 11th goal of the season, allowing her to become the single season goal scoring record holder.
- Kyra Delaney recorded her first goal of the season.
THE FOES:
- Kailey Munro, Isabel Neall, and Cydney Nichols all recorded one shot on goal.
- Alicia Jacobs finished with 3 saves in goal.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Pacers will have a few days to bask in the glory of their hard fought win before they face-off against Methodist University on October 12th. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00pm in Fayetteville, NC.
