Pacers Fall In Final Seconds of Regulation Against Monarchs

THE BASICS:

  • Score: William Peace 72 - Methodist University 75

  • Records: William Peace 7-10, 3-6 USA South - Methodist University 8-9, 6-3

  • Location: Fayetteville, NC --- Riddle Center

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Monarchs scored an early 3-pointer, but the Pacers responded with 10-0 run, led by Mikal Gaylord who would have 5 of the 10 points.

    Methodist would fight back and tie the game with 6:28 left in the first half with a 3-pointer from Steve Andrew.

  • The Pacers would go a 16-2 run and have their biggest lead of the contest at 14 points over the Monarchs. The score at this time would be 40-32 at the half after the Monarchs answered with an 8-2 run to end the half.

  • The second half started out strong for the Monarchs, as they went on a 10-3 run in the first 4 and a half minutes, taking the lead by 2.  Camden Ferguson would answer right back for the Pacers with a 3-pointer to once again give the Pacers the lead.

  • Both teams traded the lead back and forth for the remainder of the game. With 2:25 remaining in the second half and the Pacers down by two, Mikal Gaylord would tie the game with two free throws.

  • With 20 seconds left in the game, the score was tied at 72-72 after two free throws from Donolly Tyrell Jr. and Trey Bryant, the Monarchs would bring the ball upcourt and Garren Dearman would hit a a contested 3-pointer with 3 seconds on the clock to give the Monarchs a 75-72 win.

FOR THE FOES:

  • Kaymon Mitchell scored a game-high 25 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.

  • Dante Burden contributed 18 points and 7 rebounds.

 

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • The Monarchs scored 43.1% (28-65) of their field goals to the Pacers' 38.3% (23-60).

  • The Pacers had 42 bench points to the Monarchs' 23.

  • The Pacers had 22 fast break points to the Monarchs 12

 

NEXT TIME:

  • The William Peace University men's basketball team return to their home field at the Hermann Athletic Center to take on Huntingdon College on January 26, 2019. The Pacers will tip-off against the Hawks at 2:00 p.m.
