Pacers Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Greensboro

The Basics:

Final Score: William Peace 71 Greensboro 76

Records: William Peace 9-7 USAS 6-3 Greensboro College 11-3 USAS 5-2

Location: Raleigh, NC

How It Happened:

  • Shaiajah Dailey and Brianna Best both scored quick baskets as part of a 6-0 run to start the game. 

  • In the first quarter both offenses struggled to put the pieces together and the Pride would led (15-7) heading into the second quarter.

  • The Pacers' offense would start to get a rhythm going in the second as Deja Umstead and Shania Springer would hit timely shots off the bench.

  • Katie Lewis and Brianna Best both had an impressive first half both with eight points.

  • Mikayla Ray scored 9 in the nine first half and six rebounds two of which came late in the second quarter to cut the Pride's lead to (38-23).

  • Mariah Ballen and Mikayla Ray score first for the Pacers in the third quarter but the offense still struggled to get going against the Pride defense.

  • Greensboro College led by twenty-one points which was the largest lead of the game in the third quarter.

  • Late in the third quarter, Khadijah Daniels would score four quick points sparking the Pacers offense.

  • A'Liyah Woods led the Pride in the third quarter with 9 points and the Pacers would come out of this quarter trialing by fourteen points.

  • Shania Springer hit two big three pointers late in the fourth quarter to keep the Pacers alive.

  • Mikayla Ray would keep the momentum going for the Pacers as she would have two back to back blocks.

  • Led by Khadijah Daniels the Pacers would come  within three points of the lead with six seconds left in the game but turnovers and a late foul sealed the win for the Pride.

Pacer Top Performers:

  • Khadijah Daniels finished with a game high 18 points and 4 rebounds

  • Mikayla Ray finishes with her ninth double double of the year tallying 16 points and 11 boards.

  • Mariah Ballen scored 12 points and was one rebound shy of a double double.

For The Foes:

  • A'Liyah Woods led the Pride with 14 points

  • Brianna Best tallied a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds

  • Katie Lewis was a offensive threat from behind the arch and had 12 points

Stats Of The Game:

  • The Pride shot 50% from three point range

  • Both teams had 43 rebounds

  • Both teams would struggle with turnovers as the Pacers finished with 15 and the Pride with 18

Next Game:

The William Peace University women's basketball team will be back in action on January 16 at home against Averett University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
