Pacers Fall after Late Goal from Wildcats

CARY, N.C. -- The William Peace women's soccer team battled through aggressive halves and lightning delays on their Friday evening match-up against Johnson & Wales University. The Pacers would fall to the Wildcats 1-0 after a late goal in the 81st minute would give JWU the edge over the Pacers.

The first half would prove to be a physical one, as the Wildcats tallied ten fouls in the first 45 minutes alone. After several attempts to find the back of the net, both teams remained scoreless after the first half. The Pacers would open the second period with three shots in four minutes from Grace Marion, Haley Hinton, and Ana-Beth Brewer, all of which being stopped by Wildcat keeper, Kylie Priddy. Priddy would finish the game with fives saves in net. The Wildcats attack proved strong against the Pacer defense as the Wildcats took 16 shots throughout regulation.

With 18 minutes remaining in the second half, a lightning delay would clear the field, for play to resume after an hour and a half of inclement weather. After a quick warm-up, both teams picked the momentum back up for the remaining minutes of the game. With nine minutes of play remaining, JWU surged passed the WPU defense and a cross from the right side of the field would put JWU's Danielle Doyle inside the six for an opportunity to score. The Wildcats would connect on this play and would take the lead, 1-0. The physical push from the Wildcats would draw a yellow card in the 87th minute from Abigail Durisseau, but the late foul would not prove to benefit the Pacers in the end. After four hours of competition and lightning delays, the Pacers would fall, 1-0 to the Wildcats.
