Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Falls to CNU in Final Home Doubleheader

Raleigh, NC--  William Peace University Softball team took on the Christopher Newport University Captains in a midweek double header. The Pacers fell in both games to the Captains by the scores of 6-1 and 13-1.

Seniors Heather McLean, Kacy Haithcock, Amanda Ludlum, and Katelyn McLamb  were honored before the start of game by coach Charlie Dobbins and their fellow teammates.

Game One
Alexa Nemeth started the game pitching for the Pacers. After timely hits from the Captains they went up 5-0 in the fourth inning. The Pacer bats could not get into a rhythm. Christopher Newport pitcher Aubrey Bates pitched all 7 innings giving Kacy Haithcock all game. However, the Pacers were able to score a run when Kacy Haithcock stepped up to bat in the bottom of the seventh. Haithcock hit a long triple to right center field which scored Olivia Oates. The final score of game 1 would be 6-1 in favor of the Captains.

Game Two
In game 2 the Pacers could not get it going against the tough Christopher Newport pitching. The Pacers were only able to manage 5 hits. In the bottom of the first inning Lauren Conway reached on a throwing error to start the game for the Pacers. A few batters later, Alexa Nemeth was able to get an RBI double to left center field that scored Lauren Conway. This would end up being the only run the Pacers were able to get in the game. The Christopher Newport bats stayed hot in game 2 and they won 13-1.

  • Aubrey Bates pitches 7 innings allowing 3 hits and 0 walks.

  • Grace Wild went 4-7 with a home run and 4 RBI.

  • Emerald Cheesbrew went 2-4 with a homerun and 2 RBI's.

  • Tara Deck hit a homerun and had 3 RBI's.

  • Patty Maye Ohanian went 3-6 with 2 RBI's.

  • Leah Andrews went 3-7 with 1 RBI/

 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Pacers will be starting the USA Conference tournament against Salem College. The first round action will be held in Winston Salem, NC on April 6th, at 3:30pm. The Spirits come into the matchup as the number 1 seed with an overall record of 21-15, while the Pacers are the 6 seed and have a record of 16-19.
