Baseball Falls to Methodist in First Round of USA South Baseball Tournament

LaGrange, GA-- The William Peace Pacers opened up the first round of the USA South Baseball Tournament against the Methodist University Monarchs. The Pacers fell to the Monarchs by a score of 4-10.

The Pacers would be unable to get any offense going in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first the Monarchs would score the first runs of the contest after a two RBI single from Tucker Criswell giving the Monarchs an 0-2 lead. In the top of the third, Methodist would extend their lead to 0-6 after an RBI double and pair of sacrifice bunts. The Pacers would continue to fight and score their first two runs of the game in the top of the fourth with back to back RBI singles from Nathan Holt and Trey Hogan.

William Peace would remain within four runs heading into the top of the fifth. Alec Allred would step up to bat with runners on first and second and deliver with an RBI double down the leftfield line to cut the Monarch's lead to three. Following the Pacers' big inning, the Monarchs would add another run after a series of walked batters to make the score 3-7. The Pacers would answer in the top of the sixth as Nick Tilley would reach on a muffed throw and score Nathan Holt from third base to bring the Pacers back within three runs at 4-7. Neither team would add any runs until the bottom of the seventh, when Methodist University would pull away with a sacrifice fly and a two RBI single by Alex Kachler. The Monarchs would extend their lead to 4-10. The Pacers would not be able to mount a comeback and would fall to the Monarchs.

WHATS NEXT:
The Pacers will have a quick turnaround and match up against the Huntingdon College Hawks in their second game of the USA South Tournament. The Hawks fell to North Carolina Wesleyan in another first round game by a score of 4-2. This will be be the first matchup between the two teams since 2015.  It's a win or go home game for both teams in this double elimination format. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
