Pacers Walk Off Victorious In 10th Inning Rally

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC-- The William Peace University baseball team would win a pitchers duel on Friday evening against the Panthers of Ferrum College. The Panthers put up a tough fight for the Pacers in extra innings but the Pacers would take game one of the weekend series, 1-0.

THE PITCHING DUAL
In the first inning Derek Jackson found his rhythm early. He retired the first three batters in order with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts. Jacob Holland for the Ferrum Panthers came out with an aggressive style of pitching and responded to Derek Jacksons solid inning with a productive inning of his own. Derek Jackson had 10 strikeouts through nine innings with only three walks. Jackson wouldn't give up a hit until the game reached the 10th inning of play when Tim Ortega singled over the left side. Ben Brann would come in to relieve Jackson in the top of the 10th who threw a complete game only allowing two hits. Brann came in as runners were in scoring position for the Panthers with no outs on the board to throw three straight strikeouts to crush the momentum of Ferrum College heading into the bottom of the 10th.

A FINAL RALLY
Justin Torres led off the bottom of the tenth with a walk followed by a big stolen base. Ferrum intentionally walked back to back runners to put Gavin Wheeler and Alec Allred on base. With the bases loaded and just one out,  the Pacers would walk off in style as Kyle Cranmer was hit by a pitch. The Pacers would win 1-0 in the ten inning pitchers dual.
