Softball Sweeps Bulldogs In Mid-Week Doubleheader

RALEIGH, NC-- The William Peace University softball team hosted Dean College for a double header on Thursday afternoon where they defeated the Bulldogs in both games, 7-1 and 12-0. 

Game 1:

In the top of the first inning, Kelsey Durham pitched a one two three inning with a strikeout. Olivia Oates started the Pacer offense in the bottom of the second with a walk and stolen base putting her in scoring position. Kacy Haithcock singled up the middle moving Olivia Oates to third and Haithcock would then steal second. Caylan Harrison singled bringing in both runners to give the Pacers a 2-0 lead. Kelsey Durham struck out two batters in the top of the third and made a nice play on a grounder up the middle making it a quick inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Lauren Conway singled to left field and then stole second. Olivia Oats singled which scored Lauren Conway which made the score 3-0. Caylan Harrison grounded out which scored Kacy Haithcock from third base. Kristina Mojica cranked a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to center field giving the Pacers a (5-0) lead. The Pacers would end the fifth inning with a  7-0 lead. Dean College would bring in their only run in the top of the sixth inning but would run out of opportunities due to the strong Pacer defense. The Pacers would take game one (7-1).

THE BREAKDOWN (GAME 1) THE FOES (GAME 1)
  • Alexis Brown had 2 hits and 1 RBI.
  • Karissa Menzinger, Alexis Portales, and Cassandra Decuir each picked up a double in game one.

Game 2:

In game two, the Pacers would continue their offensive production with a powerful first inning. The Pacers brought in nine runs in the first inning alone. A big double to right field by Katelyn McLamb would score two late in the first inning to bring the score to 4-0. Following McLamb, Taylor Bryd would follow suit with a stand up double of her own to score McLamb. Senior, Amanda Ludlum followed with a single RBI to score Bryd, and Alexa Nemeth doubled scoring two more runs before the first inning would come to a close. Kacy Haithcock would open the bottom of the second inning with a homerun over centerfield to get the Pacer bats going. McLamb and Byrd connected with singles and William Peace would take an (11-0) lead in the second inning. The Pacers would go on to win the second game (12-0). Alexa Nemeth pitched three innings and gave up only one hit. Danielle Hunt pitched two innings and had six strikeouts.

  • Alexis Brown had the only hit for the Bulldogs in game two.

The William Peace University softball team is back in action against Pfeiffer University on Saturday, March 10 at 12:00 p.m. This USA South Conference doubleheader will take place in Misenheimer, NC. William Peace has an overall record of (11-7) and (2-2) in conference. Pfeiffer University comes into this game with an overall record of (16-2).
