Dobbins Hits 400 Career Wins In Sweep Over Mary Baldwin

Staunton, VA--  The William Peace University softball team swept Mary Baldwin in a two-game series on Saturday, March 31. The Pacers now improve to (16-17) overall and (7-8) in the conference. The two-game sweep marked 400 career wins for Head Coach, Charlie Dobbins. Dobbins has been the Head Softball Coach at William Peace University for 19 years.

Game One
Homerun City: Lauren Conway started the Pacers off in game one, bringing Nadia Blevins home with a single to left field in the top of the first to lead 1-0. Kristina Mojica would then homer to right center, increasing the Pacer lead to 3-0. Neither team would add any until the bottom of the fourth, with the Fighting Squirrels adding a run to cut the Pacer lead 3-1. WPU added two in the fifth, one on an error and one on a single by Heather McLean to lead 5-1. Nadia Blevins singled in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 6-1, with Heather McLean would hitting a homerun in the seventh for a 8-1 score. The Pacers would bring their lead up by four more in the seventh with hits by Jordan Mangum and Skylar Conklin to win the game 12-1.

Game Two
More Big Bats For Pacers: 
Kristina Mojica would start the Pacers off in game two with a single to right field, scoring Skylar Conklin and giving WPU a 1-0 lead. Heather McLean, Olivia Oates, Amanda Ludlum, and Caylan Harrison would all contribute singles in the top of the third, increasing the Pacer lead to 6-0. A homerun by Mary Baldwin's Sam Bird would bring home two to cut the lead down to 6-2, with the Fighting Squirrels adding another run for a 6-3 score in the bottom of the fourth. Amanda Ludlum would answer in the top of the fifth with a homerun of her own, with Alexa Nemeth's double in the top of the sixth to right center scoring Lauren Conway for a 8-3 Pacer lead. Olivia Oates would add another single in the top of the sixth to score Conway and give the Pacers a 9-3 victory.

  • Courtney Back pitched all 7 innings in game two, allowing 9 runs and 15 hits while recording 2 strikeouts.

The Pacers will play Christopher Newport University in a rescheduled doubleheader on the 5th of April. The Captains are currently (15-3) overall. Game one will take place at 2:30 p.m. at William Peace University.
