Softball Falls to Panthers In Virginia

FERRUM, VA -- The Ferrum Panthers swept the Pacers in a Friday afternoon double header, 9-8, 9-0.

GAME 1
  
The Panthers jumped out to a quick lead in game one, leading 5-0 after the first two innings. The Pacers would start to inch towards the lead heading into the bottom of the fifth down 5-4.

5th Inning Surge Boosts Pacers Into Extra Innings
The Pacer bats came alive in the top of the fifth inning beginning with a rope hit to centerfield by Alexa Nemeth with Caylan Harrison on first. An error by the center fielder advanced Nemeth to second and Harrison to third. Heather McLean would follow with a walk to load the bases. Hayley Waddell stepped up to the plate and hit a single to right field to score Harrison. Olivia Oates headed to the plate with the same game plan as Waddell, knocking another single to right field to score Nemeth. With just one out, Jordan Mangum would reach on a fielder's choice off a SAC bunt and a hit by Nadia Blevins up the middle would score Waddell. A wild pitch would score a final Pacer for the inning before the Panthers would close the inning allowing four hits, four runs, and a Pacer lead (8-5).

Extra Innings For the Pacers
The Panthers would tie up the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the Pacers into extra innings. The Panthers and Pacers were unable to produce offense in the eighth inning, however the Panthers stepped up in the bottom of the ninth to win the game after two hits and a walk would give Ferrum the final winning run (9-8).

GAME 2

Panthers Jump Out Early
The Panthers were active offensively in the first inning accumulating five runs and six hits. Lois Carpenter produced a homer to score two Panthers to lead the Pacers by five (0-5) concluding the bottom of the first inning.  The Pacers' effort to produce hits would continue to clash against the Panthers' defense. Five more runs were contributed by the Panthers through the next three innings to advance their led to nine (0-9) to close the game in the fifth inning.

The Recap:
- In game one, Kristina Mojica went 2-3 at the plate. - In game one, Nadia Blevins and Alexa Nemeth both went 2-5 at the plate.
- In game one, Makenzie Ward pitched three innings, allowing 4 hits through 14 at bats.
- In game two, Kristina Mojica and Alexa Nemeth led the Pacers finished with a .500 slugging percentage.

The Foes:
- In game one, Keri Hamlett went 3-4 at the plate.
- In game one, Cheyenne Strickland had 4 RBI's.
- In game one, Jasmine Agee lead the Panthers on the mound only allowing 5 hits through 23 batters.
- In game two, Courtney Rudd pitch all five innings allowing only two hits, no runs and eight strikeouts.
- In game two, Cheyenne Strickland led the Panthers going 2 of 3 with a total of 2 RBIs.
- In game two, Lois Carpenter contributed a homered along with 3 RBIs in game two.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Pacers will be back in action on Friday March 30, at 1:00 p.m. The Pacers will be facing Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, VA. The Fighting Squirrels have an overall record of 1-25 while the Pacers have a record of 14-18.
