Ferrum, VA -- The William Peace University Men's Basketball team defeated Ferrum College Panthers (65-63) in a USA South Conference matchup on February 7th, 2018. The Pacers improve to an overall record of (5-16) and are (3-9) in the conference.
Ferrum came out firing from three point range making 5 of their first 6. The Pacers remained calm and were able to get back into the game led by Cam Ferguson. Strong defense by the Pacers allowed them to get into halftime down 36-30. At the half, Ferrum shot 9-17 from three point range. Cam Ferguson had 15 points going 3-5 from three point range.
The second half had a chippy start with a couple of hard fouls by both teams. Coach Shields would make a few adjustments and the Pacers would tighten up defensively. The Pacers went 5-12 in the second half from three and limited Ferrum to 4-16 from three. William Peace went on an offensive run fueled by a few timely three-pointers from Camden Ferguson and Joshua Jones. The Pacers would go back and forth with Ferrum down the stretch. Coming down to the final minutes, Smith Gupton hit a clutch three to give the Pacers a 65-61 lead with (0.42) left. William Peace would play strong defensive in the final seconds and hold off the Panthers for a 65-63 win.
