Pacers Take The Series 2-1 Over Quakers

Greensboro, NC -- The William Peace University baseball team wrapped up their series against Guilford college on Sunday, February 18th with a (8-4) loss and a (2-1) win to take the series. The Pacers now improve to a record of (5-3).

Game One
Easton Payton would start the Pacers off with a double at the top of a first, advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Torres and scoring on a single by Alec Allred to give WPU a 1-0 lead. Guilford would get runners in the corners in the bottom of the first with two outs, tying the game 1-1 on a double from the Quaker's Will LaCount. In the second, the Quakers would have some trouble on the mound, with the Pacers getting the bases loaded and scoring a run with four consecutive walks to lead 2-1. William Musser would score to make it make it 3-1 on a sacrifice fly to right field by Justin Torres. WPU would then have some trouble in the field, with Guilford scoring three on an error with the bases loaded to lead 4-3. Michael Sterne would tie it up 4-4 on a wild pitch in the top of the third, with Kyndale Martin relieving Coleman Greene on the mound in the bottom of the third. Cameron High would relieve Martin in the same inning, with WPU holding the score to 4-4. Guilford would again get the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one run to lead 5-4. Isaiah Ortega would relieve Cameron High in the bottom of the fifth with Guilford adding 2 to lead 7-4. Noah Carter would then step in to pitch in the same inning, holding the Quakers to a 7-4 lead. They would add one more in the bottom of the sixth, holding the Pacers to 4 runs and winning the game 8-4.


Game Two

Guilford would take an early 1-0 lead in game two in the bottom of the first with a single to center field.Gavin Wheeler tied it up for the Pacers in the top of the third after a single from Easton Payton, while DC Russ would relieve Austin Skipper in bottom of the third. At the top of the fourth, Tyler Tilson would give the Pacers a 2-1 lead after scoring on a wild pitch, with Luke Westmoreland stepping in to pitch in the bottom of the fourth. Jayce Stephenson would take over for the fifth and sixth innings, while Ben Brann would close out the game to help give the Pacers a 2-1 win.

  • Pitcher Brody Holloman recorded 3 strikeouts against 7 batters, while closer Bailey Garfield allowed no runs and just one hit in game one.

  • In game one, Guilford batted at .500 when batting with two outs in comparison to WPU's .143 percent.

What's Next:

The Pacers will head to Fayetteville, NC to face Methodist University in their first USA South conference matchup. The 6 p.m. game will take place on Friday, February 23rd.
