Pacers Honor Cheatham in Final Game of Season

Raleigh, NC-- The William Peace University women's basketball team fell to the Ferrum Panthers (78-62) in their final game of the season. The Pacers finish the season with a (4-19) overall record and (4-12) in the conference.
 
In the first quarter, Ferrum would get on the board first, but points by DeJah Cheatham and Shaniya Taylor would give WPU a (4-2) lead. The Panthers would take over at 6:38, leading for the rest of the first to head into the second quarter with a (21-12) advantage. DeJah Cheatham and Mikayla Ray would cut Ferrum's lead at the start of the second quarter to (21-17). Shaniya Taylor would get the game within one (23-22) with a shot from behind the arc at 7:10, but Ferrum would then go on an 11-point run before DeJah Cheatham would break the run at 1:22. Mikayla Ray would lay it in while time expired and also head to the line, sending the Pacers into halftime trailing the Panthers with a score of (37-30).
 
The third quarter proved to be a much closer match-up, with the Pacers keeping the game within 4 for most of the quarter. WPU would get as close as (43-40) at the 5:35 mark from free throw opportunities by Mikayla Ray, but Ferrum would end the quarter leading (56-50). Ferrum would take over again in the fourth quarter, not allowing the Pacers to get closer than 8 points. A few last minute shots from the Panthers would give them the (78-62) win.
 
 
The Recap:
  • Jayde Grant led the Pacers with 24 points and 8 steals, shooting 50% from the field.
  • Mikayla Ray recorded another double-double with 15 rebounds and 14 points.
  • The Pacers were out-rebounded by the Panthers (40-28).

For The Foes:
  • Zarkia Mattox had a double-double with 34 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 66.7% from the field.
  • Erin March also had a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
  • The Panthers shot 90% from the free throw line.
