Men's Basketball Stumbles Against Monarchs

Raleigh, NC--- The William Peace University men's basketball team was back in action against Methodist University on Wednesday evening. The Pacers would fall by a final score of 81-76 to the USA South Conference Monarchs.

Donolly Tyrell Jr. got the Pacer offense off to a quick start with an early layup. John Ingram and Trey Bryant would both contribute to the Pacers' early scoring. J'Quan Deal would lead the Monarchs early.

Camden Ferguson found his three-point shot early and teammate Tyson Sellers was red hot from three point range as well. The Pacers went on a large 10-0 run with thirteen minutes left in the half.

Methodist made a push late in the half led by J'Quan Deal with 7 points. Camden Ferguson ended the first half with fourteen points and the Pacers headed to the locker rooms with a 42-37 lead.

 

First Half Stats:

  • Camden Ferguson ended the half on fire with 14 points, 4 of them coming from behind the arch.

  • The Pacers shot 42.9% from the field.

  • Pacers shot 43% from behind the arch.

 

The Pacer defense struggled early in the second half as Methodist started the second half on an 8-0 run and took a 45-42 lead.

Camden Ferguson hit another three pointer to tie the game at 45-45. At the eleven minute mark, the Monarchs went on an impressive 11-0 run and were shutting down the Pacer offense.

Garren Dearman led the Monarch's run adding to his total of 23 for the game. The Pacer offense started to pick up late in the half when they came within seven points of the lead in quick fashion. Trey Bryant had a fast break dunk that got the Pacer fans on their feet as momemtum would pick back up.

Mikal Gaylord continued to find ways to drive through traffic down in the paint and had 14 points, and teammate Tyson Sellers had timely shots with minutes remaining. Although the Pacers kept the game in reach, the Monarchs would hold on for an 81-76 win.

  • Dante Burden tallied 17 points.

  • Kaymon Mitchell had 13 points and 7 rebounds.

 

What's Next?

The William Peace men's basketball team will be back in action and step out of conference play with a matchup against William and Mary in an exhibition game on December 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Williamsburg,VA.
