Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- WPU volleyball traveled to Washington, D.C., Friday afternoon, to compete in the Catholic University of America Tournament. The Pacers (1-5) dropped their first two games of the tournament against Salisbury University (5-1) and Catholic University of America (6-1).
The Pacers kept the score close in game one with a final line score of 15-25, 18-25, 18-25. The Pacers suffered two injuries at the beginning of their season, thus limiting their depth on the bench. While keeping the score close in sets two and three, with multiple ties and shifts in score, the Pacers would come up short to a healthy Salisbury team, finishing the first game 3-0.
In game two, the Pacers faced Catholic University of America who entered the game with a record of (4-1). The Pacers rallied in set one beginning the set, with three unanswered points; the first of which, coming from a kill from freshman,
Alyssa Welch. Welch led the team with seven kills total in the match against the Cardinals. As sets two and three carried out, the momentum would shift towards CUA, with the Cardinals topping the Pacers with 32 kills in the second and third set combined in comparison to the Pacers 16. The Cardinals proved to be efficient in the third set, finishing with just one error. The game would wrap up in favor of CUA, 3-0.
The Pacers look to bounce back in their second day of competition in D.C., with their first game beginning at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9, against Wesley College (4-2). Following this game, the Pacers will face Albright College (2-1) at 12:00 p.m.
