DANVILLE, N.C. -- WPU volleyball traveled to Danville, VA last Saturday to compete in the Averett University Cougar Classic. The Pacers faced off against Guilford and Roanoke College on Friday night , and Southern Virginia University and Randolph College on Saturday afternoon.
In the first contest, Friday night, the Pacers fell to the Quakers of Guilford College with a final line-up score of 17-25, 25-21, 9-25, 15-25. Senior,
Liana Solomon notched 12 kills for the Pacers, while Senior,
Carson Williams, tallied 35 digs in their effort to rally against the Quakers. Following their match against Guilford, WPU took on Roanoke College.
The Pacers came out strong winning the first set, 25-21. The Maroons would keep the game tight winning sets two and three. The Pacers would even the match, 2-2, in the fourth set, but Roanoke took the victory in the fifth set winning 15-11. Senior,
Lindsay Alford contributed 12 kills, while Williams featured her second 30+ dig game with 30 digs.
Beginning the tournament on Saturday, WPU took on Southern Virginia at 11:00AM. The Knights charged through and finished with a 3-0 sweep over the Pacers, the final line score, 10-25,17-25,13-25. The Pacers would end the day with a victory in their final game against Randolph College, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-20. With each set proving to be a close fight, Solomon would drive the win home with 17 kills. Sophomore,

Breanna Cary(14) contributed 32 assists combined. Following the final game,
Carson Williams was named to the Cougar Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Pacers hit the road September, 8 for the Catholic University of America Tournament in Washington, D.C. WPU will face Salisbury at 4:00PM.
