Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Pacers split the Monarch tri-match on Saturday afternoon with a loss to Averett University and a victory over Methodist University. The Pacers improve to (2-1) in conference play.
In game one against the Cougars of Averett University, WPU battled back and forth taking the series to five sets. Set one would move quickly with the Cougars victorious 25-10. Set two would conclude with the Pacers coming back from being down 24-18. WPU scored eight unanswered points, two of which coming from service aces by
Liana Solomon. Set three would finish similar to set two with the largest run for the Pacers coming in a WPU rally to finish the game 25-23.The Cougars would win set four and push the Pacers to a fifth set which concluded with Averett winning 15-11. Senior,
Lindsay Alford led the team in kills (12) and blocks (6).
Liana Solomon finished with 30 assists and
Carson Williams tallied 24 digs.The Cougars improved to (14-2) overall and (3-0) in conference.
The Pacers had a quick turn around and faced the Monarchs of Methodist University directly following their game against the Cougars. The Monarchs would take set one 25-22 over the Pacers but the WPU volleyball team would have an answer in the following sets. WPU would win the following three sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 to shut down the series 3-1. Alford led again in kills with 11. The Monarchs dropped to (6-7) overall and (0-3) in conference.
The Pacers (5-10, 2-1) continue conference play with their first home game of the season on Wednesday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. against Greensboro College. There will be a tailgate for Pacer students prior to the game, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Students and Pacer fans are encouraged to wear neon colors to the event!
