RALEIGH, N.C. -- The WPU men's soccer team opened their season with an 8-0 win against the Valley Forge Patriots on Saturday, September 2nd after heavy rain, wind, and lightning forced the original Friday night game to be rescheduled.
The Pacers came out to a dominant start - scoring three goals in the first half - including two by senior
Isaac Kruger, who would add another goal in the second half for a season-opening hat trick. The first goal of the game came from sophomore,
Braxton Hirn at minute 17, his first of the season. The Pacer defense held Valley Forge to only 2 shots the entire game, while the Pacers contributed 38 shots on the other end of the field.
Head Coach,
Ryan Huber expressed, "I'm excited for the guys to get their first win of the season. They have worked incredibly hard over the last two weeks in preparation for today."
The team maintained their commanding lead in the second half, adding five goals and ending the game with a total of 18 shots on goal. Freshman,
Diego Lugo tallied his first goal as a Pacer at minute 45. Senior,
Chris Deleon increased the lead to 5-0 shortly after, and
Braxton Hirn added his second goal of the game at minute 69. Finally, sophomore
Will Hall would score in the last minutes of the game to give the Pacers their 8-0 tally.
The Pacers are back in action tomorrow, September 3rd, in Winchester, VA where they face off with Shenandoah University. Follow
