Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The WPU volleyball team took their conference opener by storm with a 3-0 sweep over the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College (25-14, 25-18, 25-16) . The Pacers improve to (3-9) overall and (1-0) in the USA South conference.
In an impressive start, the Pacers jumped ahead quickly in the first set and would give the Bishops their only lead for a short moment in set 2. WPU proved to have the stronger offensive hand dominating over the Bishops in points, kills (47-28), and assists (45-25).
Mya Parks and
Liana Solomon would lead the team with 10 kills each, while freshman,
Alyssa Welch followed closely behind with 9. Solomon also contributed a whopping 36 assists.
WPU showed strengths on both sides of play with their powerful defense as well. The Pacers led in digs and blocks over the Bishops. Junior, Shanice Frazier, led the team in assisted blocks with eight of the team's nine blocks. Senior,
Carson Williams, led the team with 20 digs.
The Pacers take a brief break from conference play with a quick turn around game at Guilford College on Wednesday, September 20. The (7-3) Quakers will play host to the Pacers in Greensboro, North Carolina with a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
