Men's Soccer Takes Conference Victory on the Road

Box Score
MONTGOMERY, AL -- The WPU men's soccer team defeated Huntingdon College in their first conference match on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Hawks, 3-1. The Pacers improve to (4-2) overall and (1-0) in conference.

The Hawks would get on the scoreboard first within the first four minutes of the first half with a goal inside the 18. Following this goal, play would go back and forth keeping the half quiet just before a goal by freshman, Zach Cantaffa, assisted by Braxton Hirn, would tie the Pacers up in the final minute, heading into halftime. This would mark Cantaffa's first career goal as a Pacer.

Beating the heat in the second, the Pacers would put their best foot forward to turn up their offense. Cantaffa would have a night for the Pacers, contributing a second goal at the 52 minute mark. An aggressive Huntingdon team would notch 10 fouls in the competition with two yellow cards. WPU would seal the deal against the Hawks in the 79th minute with a goal from Isaac Kruger (4), assisted by Chris Deleon, bringing the final score, 3-2. Christian Ortiz tallied 4 saves in net for the Pacers.

"That was a great team win, a lot of guys had to contribute due to the hot, humid conditions. I was excited for Zach Cantaffa to go in as a sub and earn two goals, one of which was the game winner, through his hard work. This is a great way to start conference play, now we will turn our focus to a tough LaGrange team tomorrow," expressed, Head Coach, Ryan Huber.

The Pacers will face a quick turn around as they play Sunday, September 16, at 1:00 p.m. in LaGrange, GA, against the Panthers of LaGrange College. The Panthers enter the contest (2-2) overall and (0-1) in conference play.
