Pacers Host USA South Top Contender Methodist On Wednesday

RALEIGH -- The William Peace University men's basketball program will host Methodist University on Wednesday night in the Hermann Athletic Center. The Monarchs are atop the USA South with an 8-3 record.

The Pacers haven't played at home in over two weeks, but they host four of their final five games of the year, including Wednesday night's tilt against Methodist.

The Pacers have four players who average at least 10 points per game. Ryan Emfinger leads the team at 16.6 points per game. Chris Thomas is averaging 14.6. Freshman Jay Hicks is having a tremendous first year and is averaging 10.8 points a game. Jalen Vince scores 10.2 points per game and dishes out four and a half assists per game. Emfinger is also the team's leading rebounder at seven boards a game.

Davion Ayabarreno leads the Monarchs with 20.8 points per contest, which leads the conference. The Monarchs also have three other players who average double figures in scoring. Jackson Whitley averages 12.9, Rae Hall is averaging 12.4 and Bryan Rouse is scoring 11.7 per game. Whitley basically averages a double-double with his 9.9 rebounds per game. Ayabarreno will be a handful for the Pacers. The junior forward is shooting 56.3% from the floor and 45.1% from beyond the arc, both of which rank in teh top four in the conference.

Both teams have enjoyed tight victories and excruciating close losses. The Pacers have played in seven games that were decided by four points or less this year, while the Monarchs have played in 10 games that were decided by six points or less. These two teams could be heading for another close game come Wednesday night.

The Monarchs got the better of the Pacers the last time these teams faced each other. The Pacers lost, 91-85, in Fayetteville in January.

Live stats and a live stream will be available for the 7:00 p.m. game.
