Virginia State Defeats William Peace, 6-4

CARY, N.C. -- The William Peace University baseball team was upended, 6-4, by Virginia State University on Tuesday afternoon. The Pacers drop to 3-4 on the season.

The Pacers gave up two runs in the first inning due to some unfortunate errors. The team quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. John Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Kyle Cranmer.

Another error in the second combined with a double gave the Trojans another run to go up 3-1. The Pacers tied the game up in the fourth. Allen George doubled to bring in Will Cunningham, and Alex Scott advanced to third. Scott scored on the next play when the Trojans opted to throw the ball to first on a grounder between second and first.

The Pacers took the lead in the next inning when Ramirez hit another sac fly to bring in Sean Finneran. However, the Pacers couldn't hold the lead and gave up two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth.

The Pacers face Brevard College on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at home in the first game of a 3-game series.
