CARY -- The William Peace University baseball team lost the first game of the three-game series with Guilford College. The Quakers slipped by the Pacers, 1-0.
Guilford College scored in the winning run in the first inning. Rocco Wilcox led off with a double and was driven in by a single from Trevor Denton. It turned out to be the only run the Quakers needed.
William Peace's bats stayed silent through four innings but the Pacers eventually started putting the ball in play. Unfortunately the team couldn't string together enough hits to score any runs.
Trevor Pence (1-1) took the loss tonight, but pitched 8.1 innings and only allowed one run and six hits while striking out seven.
Tyler Tilson went 2-for-3 for the Pacers with two singles and he reached base on a hit by pitch.
The Pacers will travel to Guilford College to face the Quakers at 2 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
