RALEIGH, N.C. -- The WPU women's and men's basketball team will host their home openers on Monday, November 20. The women's basketball team (0-1) will take on Pfeiffer University(1-0) at 5:30 p.m. and the WPU men's team (0-1) will take on Hampden-Sydney College (1-2) at the conclusion of the women's game.
The women's basketball team is coming off of a challenging loss to Campbell University on Saturday, November 17. In this season opener, Mikayla Ray recorded her first double-double of the season, while Whitney Walker contributed 12 points. The Pacers will be looking to bounce back in their home gym against newly-added conference opponent, Pfeiffer University. The Falcons enter the match having defeated Hollins University in their season opener. Although Pfeiffer is now a member of the USA South conference, the Falcons will not be qualified as official conference opponents until the 2018-2019 season. Prior to the start of the women's basketball game, their will be a special court dedication ceremony beginning at 5:15 p.m. The first 75 people to attend will receive a free commemorative t-shirt.
Directly following the women's game, the WPU men's basketball team will take the court to face off against the Hampden-Sydney Tigers. The Tigers enter the match having recently defeated, Concordia University Texas, with an 83-80 victory over the Tornadoes on Saturday evening. The Pacers have faced the Tigers in three consecutive seasons and earned their first victory against Hampden-Sydney last year in front of a full crowd in Hermann Gymnasium. Due to the expected high volume of fans projected to attend this game, the men's basketball game will be a ticketed event. The tickets are free and can be picked up from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Hermann Athletic Center, Office 103B on Monday, November 20. Please email JMiron@peace.edu your questions.
