RALEIGH, N.C. -- The William Peace University women's basketball team will open their season on Friday, November 17th against Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. Campbell enters the matchup with a record of 0-1, having lost to the University of Kansas 66-44 in their season opener.
The Pacers are coming off of a strong 2016-2017 season, where they went 17-9 overall, losing to Ferrum in the quarterfinals of the USA South Conference Tournament. WPU was picked to finish 5th in the east in the USA South Conference for the 2017-2018 season. William Peace outscored opponents 69.0 - 63.1 last season, with a season-high 104 points against Southern Virginia. The Pacers went 7-6 on the road last season, including a 4-3 mark in non-conference play.
WPU looks for leadership in their four returning members, sophomore
Mikayla Ray, sophomore
Jayde Grant, junior
Whitney Walker, and senior
DeJah Cheatham. Ray led the team last season in rebounds with a total of 238, averaging 9.5 per game. This game will mark the second season with the Pacers for Head Coach,
Brandy Smith and Assistant Coach,
Callie Yohn while the coaching staff welcomes newcomer,
LaSaundra Siddle as an Assistant Coach.
