GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Pacers defeated the Spirits of Salem College and the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin in a tri-match held at Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers improve to (10-12) overall and (6-2) in conference. The Pacers will be climbing the rankings after the weekend concludes as their record now could claim second or third place in the east division of the USA South conference.
The game against the Spirits got off to an interesting start with a close game being halted due to a discrepancy at the score table, resulting in accumulating extra stats and the Pacers to ultimately win 28-26. The Spirits would fire back in set two going on a nine point run after being down 6-2. The large margin would prove too large of a gap to climb back from in set two, giving the victory to Salem. Set three featured another close battle with the Spirits trailing 16-18 before two kills by
Brianna Davis and two salem errors would give the Pacers their momentum to close out the set 25-18.. The fourth and final set fell in favor of the Pacers until the Spirits made a comeback in the final plays bringing the score to a tie 22-22. Kills by
Brienna Laskowski,
Lindsay Alford and
Hailey Stout would seal the deal for the Pacers to upset the Spirits 25-23 in set four.
Lindsay Alford led the team with 14 kills while
Brienna Laskowski followed close behind with 12.
Liana Solomon notched a season best 46 assists.
Carson Williams contributed 30 digs.
Game two against the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University proved to be a quicker match than the first with a final line score of (25-11, 25-7, 25-13). The Pacers dominated every statistic and took the victory to sweep the day of competition.
Hailey Stout led the Pacers with eight kills.
Sarah Scott notched 6 aces and 14 assists.
Carson Williams led the team with 22 digs.
The Pacers look ahead to take on Christopher Newport in a non-conference game on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. The Captains are (17-3) overall.
