VIRGINIA BEACH, V.A. -- The Pacers traveled to Virginia Beach, to take on the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Thursday night. William Peace and Virginia Wesleyan battled it out in five sets, while the Marlins ended up taking the final set for the victory. The Pacers drop to (8-12) overall while the Marlins improve to (11-6).

The first set started off slow for the Pacers as the Marlins took a commanding lead early and took a 16-8 lead. Despite the Pacers efforts, they were unable to catch the Marlins, losing the first set 25-16. The Pacers battled back to win the next two sets 25-15, and 25-22. With the Pacers up in the series 2-1, Virginia Wesleyan came out with a strong performance to level the score during an intense fourth set, 25-22. With the game heading into a fifth set, The Pacers came out full speed jumping to a 4-2 lead early scoring four unanswered points. Both teams would rally back and forth, swapping points eventually resulting in the Marlins claiming the final set for the win,15-10.

Liana Solomon lead the Pacers with 9 kills and 34 assists, while senior, Lindsay Alford offered a strong performance, with 8 kills and 4 blocks. Carson Williams also tallied up 29 digs, to account for having the highest of the match from both sides.

The Pacers prepare to take on Salem College (12:00 p.m.) and Mary Baldwin (2:00 p.m.) for conference play in a Greensboro College tri-match, on October 7th. The Spirits of Salem College are (13-6) on the season overall and are tied with the Pacers for third place in the conference. The Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University enter the match (0-19) overall and are ranked 10th in the east division of the conference.
