FERRUM,VA - The WPU volleyball team defeated Ferrum College and Pfeiffer University in a Ferrum College Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers improve to (15-16) overall and (10-3) in conference.
The Pacer defeated Ferrum in three straight sets. The Pacers not only came to win, but also brought the energy as some of the WPU students attended the game to support the team. With multiple kills by
Lindsay Alford (12), and
Liana Solomon leading with 33 assists, the Pacers were able to not only win the match but also keep a steady lead thorough all three sets. Although Ferrum fought back and put up points they were unable to match the Pacers intensity. The Pacers dominated Ferrum in kills and played a great defensive game as
Carson Williams lead the team in digs (21). The Pacers won all three sets, 25-20, 25-10, and 25-18.
The second game against Pfeiffer, was not a problem for the Pacers as they also swept them with ease. The first set proved exciting as Pfeiffer was proving to be strong with the first set ending 25-20 in favor of the Pacers. The Pacers seemed to get their energy back in the second set as they took the set 25-10 with a great kill by Brienna Davis in the final possessions, giving the Pacers the victory. Pfeiffer was able to fight back in the third set but was unable to catch a break as the Pacers were able to take the third and final set 25-18 winning the match.
Liana Solomon and
Hailey Stout lead the Pacers in kills with eight a piece.
The Pacers will be back at home in Raleigh N.C at 7:00 p.m. to take on their cross-town rivals Meredith College on Wednesday, October 25. The Angels are (13-11) overall and (10-3) in conference. The game will be a great match up and will test both teams as they are tied for second in the USA South. Earlier in the season, the two teams met at Meredith College where the Pacers fell in an intense battle, 3-2.
