RALEIGH, N.C -- The WPU volleyball team played two games on Saturday against Averett University and Methodist University. The Pacers went (1-1) beating the Monarchs 3-2 and losing against the Cougars 3-1.

In the first game, the Pacers lost to the Cougars in four sets. Pacers fell behind in the first two sets (14-25) and (24-26). Next set the Pacers rallied together and made a strong comeback to win set three (26-24). Set four kicked off with the Pacers leading but the Cougars made a comeback and won (18-25).

Against the Cougars freshman Hailey Stout and senior Lindsay Alford lead the team with 10 kills. Senior Carson Williams had a total of 27 digs while senior Liana Solomon had 25 assists.

Game two against Methodist University was a battle from start to finish. The Pacers won set one (25-22) but got beat on set two (19-25). The Pacers made a great comeback in set three to win (25-23). In set four the Pacers went back and forth with the Monarchs but were defeated (24-26). In set five the Pacers pieced it together and defeated the Monarchs (15-12).

Against the Monarchs the Pacers had a total of 64 kills with both Alford and freshman Brienna Laskowski having 16 kills. Solomon had an impressive season best with 49 assists for the game. Williams contributed 27 digs.

The Pacers are currently (8-3) in conference and (12-14) overall. The Pacers will travel for their next game to Mount Berry, GA  for a single game against Millsaps College on Sunday, October 15th, at 2:00 p.m.
