WPU Hosts Double Header Saturday

RALEIGH -- William Peace University will host back-to-back games this Saturday with the men's basketball team facing Averett at 2 p.m. and the women's basketball team taking on Methodist following the conclusion of the men's game.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Pacers are coming off a 91-85 loss to Methodist University and will look to bounce back against Averett on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers have relied on the steady play of seniors Ryan Emfinger, Chris Thomas and Jalen Vince, but the Pacers have also gotten consistent contributions from Jay Hicks and Camden Ferguson.

Heading into Saturday's matchup the William Peace sits at 9-5 on the year and 2-1 in the conference, which currently places the team fourth in the USA South.

The Pacers lead the conference in rebounding and assists and place third in turnovers and points per game. Despite the Pacers 9-5 record, the scoring margin for the Pacers is 4.4 with nearly each game coming down to final few minutes.

Averett, winners of their last two, are 3-2 in conference but only 5-11 on the year. The Cougars have a -6.0 scoring margin and are being led by Charles Bryant and James Contreras Jr. who each average 16.8 points per game.

Averett has wins over Huntingdon and Ferrum in the last two games, but the Cougars most impressive conference win came against Methodist on January 9th when the Cougars took down the Monarchs, 85-79. It's Methodists' only loss in conference.

Live stats and a live stream for the 2 p.m. tip will be available.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Pacers are coming off an 86-75 win over Averett University and have won two straight bringing the team's record to 10-3 on the year and 3-1 in the conference. William Peace has had consistent performances from Tyler Mercer, Nadine Ealey and Makayla Ray to overpower opponents this season.

The Pacers are averaging more than 72 points a contest, best in the USA South. The Pacers' ability to get out on the break, pound the ball inside, and hit timely three pointers has given the team the most prolific offense in the conference. At 3-1 the Pacers are second in the East division and fifth overall in the USA South.

Methodist is seeking it's second win in the conference and fourth overall as the Monarchs are 3-11 heading into the Saturday game. The Monarchs are being led by Christian Sanders and Jalisia Campbell who are averaging 12.8 and 11.5 points per game, respectively.

The Pacers are outscoring opponents on an average of 8.1 points per game while the Monarchs are usually outscored by 12 points per game.

Live stats and a live stream are available for the scheduled 4 p.m. game.
