HIGH POINT, NC – The William Peace University women's soccer team traveled to John Wesley University Thursday night, where the Pacers were edged, 3-2, in their season opener.
WPU fell behind, 2-0, in the opening minutes of the game with both goals coming from the Lion's Ashli Mincy. The Pacers went into the break trailing 2-1 after
Lauren Lane came off the bench and scored in the closing moments of the half.
The Pacers came out more inspired in the second half and pulled even thanks to
Stephanie Arnold's first career goal, but John Wesley scored the game-winner with less than 10 minutes remaining after a series of several consecutive corner kicks.
"We dug ourselves into an early hole which ultimately cost us a chance at coming away with a win," said head women's soccer
Keith Jenkins. "We managed to crawl our way out and tie things up, but we can't afford to spot teams 45 minutes of soccer."
The WPU women's soccer team is back in action this Saturday, hosting Guilford College at 1:00 p.m. It will be the third matchup between the two programs in as many years. The Pacers are looking for their first win against the Quakers during that span after a 3-0 loss last year and a 1-1 tie in 2014.
