Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The William Peace University volleyball team closed out the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawk Invitational on Saturday. The Pacers were crowned tournament champions, finishing the weekend with a 4-0 record.
 
Senior Laura Bland was tabbed as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Freshman Mya Parks was also an All-Tournament Team selection.
 
"We had a good weekend of play. Some matches were more challenging than others, but it ultimately came down to staying mentally focused, controlling our side of the court and playing our style of volleyball," said head coach Kevin Daniels. "St. Mary's and Methodist both jumped out to big leads on us, but we remained calm and found that inner fight that we needed to come back and finish. We got in our way a few times but still found ways to win, which isn't something we want to make a habit of, but we'll certainly take it."
 
"It was unfortunate that we only had two all-tournament team selections because our women really played as a single unit. I don't think I've ever been more proud of a group from start to finish, on the court or from the bench. This weekend was a total team effort," Daniels added.
 
Following a pair of wins against St. Mary's and Medgar Evers College yesterday, WPU (8-2) went on to a pair of 3-0 victories this afternoon against the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College and Methodist University Monarchs.
 
The Pacers took down the Bulldogs by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-9 to start the day. They beat the Monarchs by scores of 25-23, 27-25 and 25-11 to close out the weekend.

The WPU volleyball team is back in action this Friday, Sept. 23 for a USA South quad-match, as the Pacers travel to Salem College for matches against Covenant College and Salem.
