NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The William Peace University Men's basketball team will travel to compete in the Crowne Plaza Captains Shootout hosted by Christopher Newport University on Wednesday. The Pacers will face The College at Old Westbury in their first game of the tournament.
William Peace is coming off a win over Piedmont College in which the Pacers dominated winning 103-74 with six different players scoring double figures. William Peace is 7-2 heading into the weekday matchup against the Panthers who are 3-5.
The Pacers have been able to lean on three seniors throughout the year in
Chris Thomas,
Ryan Emfinger and
Jalen Vince. The trio is averaging over 40 points for William Peace a game, but the team has had major contributions from many individuals beyond the seniors.
Jay Hicks picked up his first USA South Rookie of the Week honor for his play in the Pacers last two games.
The Panthers struggled out of the gate losing their first five matchups this year, but they've started to turn things around heading into the game against William Peace on a three game win streak. The Panthers are led by Jamail Stanley, who is averaging 24.4 points a game. No one else on the team is averaging double figures. Stanley is also the Panthers leading rebounder at 11.9 per game, though he only stands at 6-3. The Pacers will need to shut Stanley down to make it to the championship match.
The Pacers' game against the Panthers will start at 5:30 p.m. and a
live webcast is available to watch the game and keep up with stats.
