Pacers Throttle Mustangs, 89-55

Box Score RALEIGH -- The William Peace University women's basketball team outscored Mid-Atlantic Christian University 70-39 in the final three quarters to beat the Mustangs, 89-55, in the Hermann Athletic Center on Tuesday night. The Pacers had four women score in double figures in a balanced effort.

The Pacers got off to a slow start with only leading the Mustangs by three at the end of the first quarter. The Pacers went on to outscore the Mustangs, 22-9, in the second quarter to get the things rolling before heading into the locker room at half. Whitney Walker scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half and grabbed six rebounds. Makayla Ray was aggressive on the backboards leading the team with eight in the first half.

The Pacers didn't let off the throttle in the second half, extending the lead to 25 following a couple steals and fast break layups by Tyler Mercer. The Mustangs would slice into the lead and finish the quarter down 22 points, but the Pacers went back at it again in the fourth quarter causing havoc in the lane and earning several trips to the foul line.

The Pacers earned 37 attempts at the free throw line and had three players from MACU with four fouls and two with three. William Peace continued to layer on the points, eventually extending the lead to 35 before finishing the game 34 points ahead of MACU.

THE BIG PICTURE
William Peace is above .500 for the first time this season. First-year coach Brandy Smith is getting every ounce of effort out of the young club and it showed tonight on the rebounds. The Pacers picked up 26 offensive rebounds, one shy of MACU's defensive rebounds total for the game. The Pacers forced 22 turnovers out of the mustangs and came up with a season-high eight blocks. Beyond the rebounding difference (+25 in favor of WPU), the biggest impact on the game was the Pacers ability to score close to the basket. WPU finished with 52 points in the paint to MACU's 20.

BY THE NUMBERS
Cassidy Clark led the Pacers with a season-high 17 points. She was efficient while on the floor, making 8-of-12 from the floor and nabbing 10 rebounds in only 17 minutes of play. Tyler Mercer tacked on 15 points and dished out five assists. Nadine Ealey scored 14 and assisted on five baskets. Whitney Walker had 13 points, three assists, two steals and a block. Makayla Ray filled up the stat sheet with eight points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, and an assist.
