Box Score RALEIGH – The William Peace University's women's basketball team fought off a persistent Salem College squad to defeat the Spirits 69-63. The Pacers bring their record back to even for the season and now have won three straight against Salem College.
The Pacers shot out to an early lead and developed a sizable lead early into the second quarter. The team was forcing turnovers and rebounding well while also displaying offensive efficiency. The lead grew up to 20 points in the second quarter and William Peace led at half, 43-27.
The Spirits wouldn't give up and started inching their way back into the game. The Spirits brought the game back to within four points and made William Peace make its foul shots down the stretch.
Nadine Ealey did just that to help secure the Pacers win over the Spirits.
WPU's offensive attack was balanced with four players reaching double figures.
Tyler Mercer led the team with 14,
Nadine Ealey had 13, and
Whitney Walker and
Makayla Ray each had 12. Mercer earned her points on the break and scoring in transition. Ealey did her work down low on offensive rebounds. Ray was aggressive getting to the line six times throughout the course of the game. Ray was just a rebound shy of a double-double.
UP NEXT
William Peace continues the homestand next week against Mid-Atlantic Christian University on November 29 in the Hermann Athletic Center. The following day the Pacers will take on Randolph College at home.
