Women's Basketball Topped at Piedmont

DEMOREST, GA – The William Peace University women's basketball team traveled to take on the Lions of Piedmont College Saturday afternoon, where they suffered a lopsided, 92-57 loss.

Brittany Boykin scored five straight points to give WPU an early 7-5 lead, but Piedmont erupted for a 21-0 run over the next six minutes and change, where the Pacers went 0-9 from the field and turned it over seven times. The Lions only coughed it up three times and scored 18 points off the Pacers' 14 first half turnovers. Both teams shot around 30% from the field, but Piedmont went 16-of-19 (84.2%) at the charity stripe, helping them to a 44-26 lead at the break. Piedmont turned it on in the second half, shooting better than 50% from the field and extending their lead to as many as 38.

Boykin led the way for WPU (5-6, 0-3 USAS), scoring 17 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Alexis Armstrong finished with 12 points and two rebounds, while Hannah Ericksen added 11 points and two boards. Lakeia Jones didn't score but did bring down 11 rebounds.

Jatasia Bailey paced the Lions (9-4, 4-0 USAS) with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Le'Shaunda Jones had 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals.

The WPU women's basketball team will be back in action this Tuesday, January 12 at 7:00 p.m. when they face Meredith College.
