DANVILLE, VA – The William Peace University volleyball team returned to action on Sunday for day two of Averett's Cougar Classic. The Pacers started the day with a 3-0 win over Randolph College before narrowly falling to Guilford, 3-2.
WPU (3-2) took care of Randolph 25-18, 25-14, 25-21.
Liana Solomon led the way with 8 kills at a .667 clip to go along with 16 assists and five digs.
Laura Bland also recorded eight kills, while
Merica Ivey and
Tempestt Frazier chipped in with six apiece.
Maddie Irvin had a team high 12 digs to go along with three service aces.
After falling behind by two games that came down to the wire against Guilford, the Pacers stormed all the way back to force a fifth set, but they fell just short 23-25, 26-28, 25-18, 27-25, 15-12.
Solomon had the game of her career with, as she racked up a career high 17 kills, 34 assists, 11 digs, two block assists and a service ace. Frazier also recorded a new career high for kills with a team high 18.
Laura Bland had 11 kills, six digs and a block assist, while
Lindsay Alford added 10 kills, three digs, a pair of block assists and a service ace.
The Pacers will be back on the court only a couple miles away from campus, as they travel to face Division II opponent Saint Augustine's at 6:00 p.m.
