RALEIGH, NC – Despite less than ideal weather conditions, the William Peace University women's soccer team was back in action Friday against Piedmont College, who is currently the top ranked team in the USA South.

The abundance of rain forced WPU (3-4-1, 2-1 USAS) to abandon their usual home surface at WakeMed Soccer Park in favor of CASL's WRAL Soccer Complex, where they were able to play on a synthetic turf field. The Pacers turned in a strong performance but couldn't generate enough offense, as Piedmont went on to win, 2-0.

"We were shorthanded and lacked that final punch in the attacking third, but I thought our ladies put in a tremendous effort today," said head coach Keith Jenkins. "We're in a good position after a couple wins last weekend, and I think a match like today against a high-caliber opponent proves we can play with anyone in the conference."

WPU trailed 1-0 at the half, after Piedmont (8-0, 3-0 USAS) broke through in the 26th minute. The defending USA South Player and Rookie of the week, Cassidy Reich, found Sarah Weber for her third goal of the year.

The Pacers came out with a push after the break, but Reich stalled the momentum in the 62nd minute, as she took the header from Jazmin Penado and made it a 2-0 game with her league leading eighth goal of the season. Reich's assist in the first half was also her ninth of the year, which is also tops in the conference.

The WPU women's soccer team returns to WakeMed Soccer Park this Monday, Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m., as they take on Maryville College  The match, originally slated for Saturday, was rescheduled due to the inclement weather.
