WATCH: WPU vs. NC WesleyanRALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University volleyball team was back at the Hermann Athletic Center Thursday night, where the Pacers swept North Carolina Wesleyan for the second time this season, improving to 9-4 overall with a 3-1 record in the USA South.
WPU set the tone in the first set, racking up 15 kills at a .500 clip and scoring nine out of the last 10 points to win, 25-13. NC Wesleyan (3-8, 0-4 USAS) never recovered, as the Pacers took the second set, 25-16, followed by a 25-17 win in the third.
"That was exactly the kind of win we needed," said head coach
Kevin Daniels. "We jumped ahead early on Tuesday and almost let one slip away, but we came out with a better mindset tonight and took care of business."
It was a balanced WPU attack paced by juniors
Laura Bland,
Liana Solomon and
Tempestt Frazier. Bland posted a game high 11 kills and four digs, while Frazier came in with nine kills and a block assists. Solomon nearly registered a triple-double with a game high 16 assists, 10 digs, eight kills, a pair of service aces and a block assist.
Carson Williams led the Pacers with a game high 20 digs.
Kennedey Paine finished with 15 assists, nine digs, one kill and a service ace.
For NC Wesleyan, Tori Stewart had seven kills, seven digs, a service ace and a block assist. Kayla White led the Bishops with nine assists, while Christina Huber recorded 19 digs.
The Pacers will be back in action this weekend for a pair of conference games. The Pacers will travel to Rocky Mount to face Greensboro at 12:00 p.m. and Mary Baldwin at 2:00 p.m.
